FAQ – Updated, June 23rd, 2022

CAN I DO THE COURSE WITHOUT ACCESS TO A GYM?

Our course tasks require access to a gym or fitness facility and its equipment. This is critical so students may meet the expectations of the assessment criteria. This may also be possible in environments such as a home gym. You will need friends or family to role-play being clients for some of the tasks so make sure you word them up in advance.

DOES FIT COLLEGE SUPPLY EQUIPMENT?

FIT College has a basic health screening pack that includes a blood pressure cuff and skinfold calipers. Students can order this equipment pack by calling the Head Office on 1300 887 017. Students can pay over the phone and provide delivery details.

CAN I COMPLETE THIS COURSE IF I’M PUT IN COMPLETE ISOLATION?

A large part of the course involves learning materials that require reading or watching before performing any assessment tasks. These can be completed in isolation and submitted for marking. However, for those tasks that require clients, small groups, or access to a gym or fitness facility, we will allow you to move through to the following written task without completing the practical task, which can be completed after you are out of isolation. Please consult with you Educator if the situation warrants it.

HOW DO I ACCESS THE FIT COLLEGE VIRTUAL CLASSROOM?

In an eminent lockdown, FIT College Face to face classes will transition students will be sent a web link each day to visit the FIT College Virtual Classroom. Make sure your email in the Student Platform is correct, and be sure to have watched the lecture before the classroom opens so you can ask questions and chat about the lecture.

WILL STUDENT SUPPORT SESSIONS RUN AS A VIRTUAL CLASSROOM?

Each Campus will still conduct student support sessions in the normal schedule. However, these will all be run through the FIT College Virtual Classroom. To join these support sessions, you must register your intention to participate in the event by logging into the website calendar, finding the session you wish to attend, and registering. Then, before the usual start time, you will be sent a web link to join the virtual classroom. Be sure to come prepared with questions that will assist you moving forwards with your study.

WHAT CAN I DO IF I AM EXPERIENCING FINANCIAL HARDSHIP?

FIT College understands that sometimes hardship is out of your control and unexpected. Such hardship can be ongoing or temporary and can be seen in various forms. FIT College is committed to helping those facing all types of hardship. We will work with you to find a sustainable solution regarding your circumstances on a case-by-case basis. To assess your eligibility for the Financial Hardship Program and identify a suitable solution, you are required to submit a ‘Changes of Enrolment’ LAR (via our Student Platform) outlining your current situation and your financial circumstances. In some cases, where financial hardship is long-term, we may also require supporting documentation such as a redundancy letter from the employer or Centrelink Confirmation. If approved, payment options will be presented to you in writing.

The Australian government is also providing additional support – see the links below for further information.

DHS has approved student support for those completing many of our online courses if you are studying them full time. If you are already receiving study support, this will continue. If you are hoping to apply for a study allowance, please go through the standard application process with Centrelink.

AM I ABLE TO WITHDRAW OR CANCEL MY COURSE?

Withdrawing from study means you have no learning obligations to FIT College, and your Student Platform account is withdrawn from the system. To have your account withdrawn from the system, there is a $250.00 withdrawal fee per enrolment. Please submit your request and reasons in writing if you wish to withdraw from study. Withdrawal does not affect your Registration Contract to uphold financial obligations. This remains valid.

A Registration Contract is a legally binding document. Please review our refunds clause in your terms and conditions if you have paid in full. If you are on a payment plan, please be aware this was a legal arrangement for payment of the entire course cost (whether it has been accessed). The refund clause will also be considered for those on a payment plan as we view the account based on overall contract value (not what has been paid to date). Please be aware this request is for those undergoing severe extenuating circumstances such as a permanent injury/medical condition and terminal illness identified after registration or, in some cases, death. This request also requires the submission of supporting documentation to assist your case, e.g. Medical Certificate.

CAN I GET A REFUND?

FIT College is not required to provide a refund if:

  • The student withdraws from a course(s);
  • The student has changed their mind;
  • Student fails to pay an amount they were liable to pay; or
  • Students’ personal, financial or family circumstances have changed.

FIT College may provide a refund if:

  • The student has identified a terminal illness or permanent disability after registration;
  • FIT College is unable to provide the course for which the registration and payment has been made; or
  • A credit that relates to an overpayment.

AM I ABLE TO STUDY ONLINE OR CHANGE MY INTAKE TO A LATER DATE?

Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, FIT College will approve this change at no cost to you if you want to change your mode of study or the intake you have enrolled in. You will need to log into your Student Platform Account and submit a Learner Action Request (LAR). You will find this on your dashboard under Useful Links.

WHAT IF I AM FEELING SICK AND CAN NOT COMPLETE STUDY, WHO DO I CONTACT?

You need to contact your Campus Coordinator immediately. If you are unable to do so, contact Head Office on 1300 887 017.

I AM STRUGGLING WITH ANXIETY AND STRESS

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN A TRAINING PACKAGE CHANGES?

From time to time, Training Packages change. Most recently, the SIS Training Package was updated. The courses FIT College offer being affected were:

  • SIS30315 Certificate III in Fitness – replaced by SIS30321
  • SIS40215 Certificate IV in Fitness – replaced by SIS40221
  • SIS50215 Diploma of Fitness – deleted from the national register

Based on the above updates, a teaching-out period was attributed to the now “old” qualifications

  • SIS30315 Certificate III in Fitness – March 2023 - Last assessments must be submitted by 24.02.2023
  • SIS40215 Certificate IV in Fitness – May 2023 - Last assessments must be submitted by 30.04.2023
  • SIS50215 Diploma of Fitness – November 2023 - Last assessments must be submitted by 31.10.2023

Aiming to provide additional student support and maintain compliance, FIT College has assessed students’ progress currently completing the now “old” qualification and based on their percentage of completion for the Certificate III and Certificate IV in Fitness:

  • Keep students in the “old” qualification that are on track to finish within the set due date - 50% and above completion;
  • Automatically notify and transfer students into the new qualification where completion is minimal - under 50% completion;

Note: Changes to a Training Package occur often and are directed by Industry and Regulatory Bodies. When updating the Training Package, FIT College continues to ensure it remains compliant with the requirements under SRTO2015. An update to the curriculum does not affect your contract agreement with FIT College. Additional frequently asked questions are as follows:

Do I need to pay anything to transfer into the new course? No, this upgrade is free of charge for our current students.

Can I transfer my First Aid and CPR (Certificate III)? We will transfer these competencies into the new course if you have completed the following unit codes: HLTAID009 and HLTAID010 (HLTAID011). Unfortunately, previous unit codes cannot be transferred as they are not equivalent.

How will I know when the transfer has been completed? Simply log in to your student dashboard; you will notice that the topic names have changed. (Old course code: SIS30315 / New course code: SIS30321)

I have been transferred, but I cannot see any of my previous results… Your results will be transferred after you have been given access to the new course. Focus on completing your pre-course activities to update your enrolment information and start working on EAP task 1 after watching EAP lectures.

My course is expiring soon, how can I apply for an extension? Log in to the Student Platform click on the “Student Resources” tab and choose “Learner Action Request” and “Extend Allowable Time”. Once we have received your request, one of our team members will contact you.

I have already contacted you about these changes. I want to stay in my current enrolment as I will be able to complete my courses before the end of the teach-out period. If you have already spoken to one of our student support team members, your request has been recorded, and you will remain in your current course.”
