Topic 1 - Provide First Aid

Included in face-to-face study only. Please be aware that online students will need to source HLTAID011 Provide First Aid from an independent supplier and provide the Certificate as competency in this topic.

*F2F Classroom based students will receive the First Aid delivery in class. Virtual Classroom and Online students are required to source their own valid First Aid course and maintain currency.      

Topic 2 - Exercise Anatomy & Physiology

This topic covers the basics of the systems of the human body and the structures required for movement. You will learn how to use anatomy and physiology in fitness instruction and programs, select effective exercise activities for participants with a broad range of capabilities, support participants to exercise safely and effectively by providing clear explanations and demonstrating proper exercise techniques.

Topic 3 - Screening & customer service

This topic covers the pre-exercise screening and service orientation for new clients. You will learn how to screen and evaluate clients for participation in exercise programs, establish customer needs and provide advice on products and services, provide exercise service information and referrals when required Prevent or manage interpersonal conflict situations, and reflect on your response to conflict resolutions.

Topic 4 - Healthy nutrition & service

This topic focuses on developing skills in strength and conditioning. The four units of competency here start with the knowledge and skills required to write and develop strength and conditioning programs for a broad range of performance outcomes. These skills are then transferred to learning how to conduct and instruct these programs with athletes from different sports.  Basic fitness testing, program writing, and coaching are all important parts of this Semester. Students must have access to a community group or sporting organisation to have access to participants on which to practice these skills and use for coaching development.

This topic covers the skills and knowledge required to assess current fitness capabilities of clients and deliver and monitor customer service. You will learn how to Prepare for fitness assessments using the pre-exercise screening documentation, consult with client to identify their goals and preferences, assess a clients fitness and evaluate the results to determine capability, explain the results to the client and discuss the outcomes

     This topic covers the skills and knowledge required to identify client needs, develop program and session structure, and provide initial instruction and advice while providing ongoing service to clients.

Education Pathways

Vocational Education & Training (VET)

The direct vocational pathway for the Certificate III is the Certificate IV in Fitness. These qualifications are most commonly purchased together and completed in sequence. The FIT Elite Course contains both qualifications and comes with some additional value, check it out!                                                       

University & Higher Education

Bachelor study in exercise science is the most common academic pathway from Vocational fitness study. Exercise science is concentrated more on athletes and exercise performance as opposed to normal people and health. Other common university pathways which align with streams include sport coaching, exercise physiology, sports management, and sports nutrition.           

Industry Specific

All fitness and exercise instructors should complete short courses and upskilling. FIT College have a number of short courses which also qualify

Course Requirements

Entry Requirements

There are no entry requirements for the SIS30321 Certificate III in Fitness. However, FIT College do not accept students under 14 years of age and all students are required to meet LLN requirements.

Required General Resources:

• Access to a computer or device that can connect to the internet

• Smartphone, camera, video camera, or device that can take pictures & record

Course Assessment

Every qualification, unit of competency or skill set completed at FIT College will require students to undergo a number of written and/or practical assessment tasks. The assessment tasks are designed to confirm that the student can meet all elements and performance criteria indicated in the curriculum. By completing each assessment task to the standard indicated, students are ready and eligible to perform those elements in the workplace.

English & LLN Requirements

All Students

All domestic students must demonstrate core competency in language, literacy, and numeracy.

ESOS/CRICOS Additional International Student Requirements

In addition to other LLN requirements, international students may be required to achieve a minimum test score in one of the following English language tests:

  • 5.5 overall score with no band scoring less than 5.0

Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) Internet-Based Test:

  • 50 overall score with a minimum score of 5 in Reading, 5 in Listening, 14 in Speaking and 15 in Writing

Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) Paper Based Test:

  • 530 minimum test result.

Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE):

  • 162 overall score with no less than 154 in any component

Pearson Test of English: Academic (PTE:A):

  • 42 overall score with no less than 36 in the communication band"

In QLD, FIT College is a Skills Assure Supplier for the Certificate 3 Guarantee program funded by the Queensland Government - Agreement Number QS102388. As a Skills Assure Supplier, FIT College is approved to deliver the SIS30321 Certificate III in Fitness to approved fitness course participants, through the Certificate 3 Guarantee program. Students Enrolling in the Certificate III in Fitness with approval for this program will only pay a Co-Contribution towards the course:

  • Non-Concessional Rate: $2000


Eligibility Requirements: The program is open to any Queensland resident aged 15 years or over who is no longer at school (with the exception of VET in Schools students) and is an Australian or New Zealand citizen or Australian permanent resident (including humanitarian entrants), or a temporary resident with the necessary visa and on the pathway to permanent residency. Prospective fitness education students must not have or be enrolled in a certificate III level or higher qualification, not including qualifications completed at school and foundations skills training.
*In Instances where the Certificate III in Fitness is purchased with other qualifications, only the Certificate III will receive subsidy with this program.
