Hobart Hurricanes Bowler Clive Rose Enrols with FIT College

Retirement can be quite early in life so thinking about the future is important. I chose personal training because these qualifications have such broad opportunities, and I can’t imagine not doing something that doesn’t involve sport, health and fitness.

Clive doesn’t rest on his laurels when it comes to achieving great things. Not only has he played for the Tassie Tigers prior to the Hurricanes, but while being a professional athlete – he also decided to jump head first into a career path with great opportunities to further influence people in a positive way when his career ends.

We sat down with Clive who’s studying at our Fit College Hobart campus, where he is currently studying his Certificate III SIS30315 and Certificate IV SIS40215 in Fitness. In the interview, Clive openly shares his experience with the course so far, and where he plans on taking his certificates within the fitness industry.

Fit College: How long have you played cricket for Clive?

Clive: I’ve been paying cricket since I was very young, I started out in the under 12’s team when I was 6. My dad coached me most of my junior days.

How long ago did you join the Hobart Hurricanes?

I’ve been with the Hurricanes for 3 years now but moved to a Tasmania to play for the Tassie Tigers two years prior to that.

What made you want to study with FIT College to become a personal trainer?

I think it’s important to have other career prospects in place, particularly for someone like me playing professional sports. Retirement can be quite early in life so thinking about the future is important. I chose personal training because these qualifications have such broad opportunities and I can’t imagine not doing something that doesn’t involve sport, health and fitness.

How have you found the courses so far?

I’m really enjoying studying with FIT College and in the face to face course on campus particularly. I love that what we’re learning can be easily applied to any chosen path in the fitness industry, as well as for self-growth in applying it to your own life and training. The educators are great to work with, very knowledgeable and approachable. They really take the time to get to know their students and keep everybody’s interests in mind for when things come up we may benefit from individually. Like a weekend short course or event that is in someone’s chosen area of fitness. I like that you get the support of your classmates as well. You’re all in it together!

What interests you the most?

I find all of it interesting, but I’d have to say that strength training is my main interest for sure. The campus really caters for this, as it is very well-equipped and is a friendly learning environment. I really enjoy the class and being a part of a team, you meet so many great people who are on their own journey as well.

I would highly recommend this option for others, as I prefer learning hands on and think the face to face course offers the most benefits while becoming a personal trainer.

Once you have completed your studies, what type of fitness industry would you like to work in with your qualifications?

I have some ideas for personal training down the track and where I can apply it to my cricket training and writing my own programs is really satisfying for me.

What advice would you give to others who might be thinking about studying with FIT College?

If you are thinking about becoming a personal trainer, definitely look into Fit College! I don’t think you will find a better teaching standard with so much mentoring and an engaging delivery of content.

Clive, thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule as a professional athlete to study with us here at Fit College. We’re certain you have another great career ahead of you as a fitness professional!
