A SIS40215 Certificate IV in Fitness will give you the opportunity to become a fully qualified personal trainer.
This PT training qualification reflects the role of personal trainers who have specialist skills to train individual clients, or groups of clients, on a one-on-one or group basis, to improve health related components of fitness in relatively low risk situations. This may include training of older clients and children.
They have a substantial depth of knowledge to plan, conduct and evaluate exercise training; provide leadership and guidance to clients and other staff; and deal with unpredictable situations applying defined guidelines and procedures from the fitness industry and the organisation.
They work independently or with limited guidance from others and use discretion to solve non-routine problems, including monitoring and managing business activities to operate efficiently and profitably.
The PT training course qualification does not provide the skills and knowledge for an individual to provide advice or exercise instruction to high risk clients, other than to refer the client to an appropriate medical or allied health professional.
This PT course qualification provides a pathway to work in a diversity of fitness industry businesses including fitness centres, gyms, aquatic facilities, community facilities and in open spaces, where risk management (through risk assessment and hazard control processes) does
not already exist.

Healthy Eating Prescription
HEP teaches students to work within the scope of practice in nutrition when discussing energy balance, dietary guidelines, nutrient density, and macronutrients. Students will learn how to educate clients on correct nutritional information and remain within the scope of practice as determined by Fitness Australia. Students will also learn how to refer to a dietitian or general practitioner when they meet a client who has needs that require more expert assistance.

Functional Movement Assessment
FMA teaches students how to conduct movement screening in three different formats. The 7 Moves screening tool assesses seven different exercise patterns and uses five criteria for each one. The static alignment screen assesses static postural alignment, and muscle function screen assesses dynamic posture through several key joints and positions. Students should become proficient at observing a client's movement and how to use these screening results to perfect your client's program design.

Introduction to Exercise Science
IES teaches students about the physiological and mechanical principles used to improve the health & fitness of clients. This topic has a weight loss theme for learning the general science of exercise to help clients achieve safe and effective weight loss. The use of resistance training and the different formats of conditioning are integrated into programming design in this topic.

Programming for Personal Training
PPT has a specific theme of body composition and the science behind body composition goals. Students will learn how body composition is measured in particular, the anthropometric skills of taking girths and skinfolds. The programming variables required to make changes to body composition is dealt with in detail for both resistance training and cardiovascular training. The program design introduces split programs, and more details are provided on how to coach training sessions.

Strength & Conditioning Information
SCI teaches students how to design long term periodised training plans and deliver specific strength & conditioning programs. Students will learn how to write detailed training plans to develop different fitness qualities and will be required to deliver these programs over a normal training block of time. This topic covers much of the ASCA Level 1 Coaching accreditation.

Younger & Specific Populations
YSP teaches students how to program and assess 5-12 and 13-17-year-old clients. Students will learn how to assess skills, and write program activities across a broad range of age-specific activities and report any issues found with these young people to an Allied Health Professional for further feedback and guidance. These units form the key part of the child trainer accreditation.

Introduction to Fitness Business
IFB is set up to assist students in starting a small business. Students will learn how to develop a business plan including goals, financial and legal considerations, key marketing aspects, concepts, and methods for a 12-week challenge program. Students will also identify branding and sales opportunities to excel in the fitness market.
